A thoughtful, informed voice for students, teachers, and our community.
I am running for the Indianola School Board because I believe in the power of public education to help students dream bigger, pursue meaningful goals, and strengthen our community.
My roots in this area run deep. I graduated from Southeast Warren High School and Simpson College, and I’ve called Indianola home for much of my life. As both a parent of two ICSD students and a lifelong educator, I know firsthand the challenges and opportunities facing our schools.
Remember to Vote on Tuesday, November 4th
Experience
With nearly two decades in K–12 classrooms and now as an education professor working with pre-service teachers, I bring a unique perspective to the board:
- 17 years teaching English in public schools
- 12 years in Indianola schools before moving into higher education
- PhD in Education | Drake University
- Master’s in English | Northern Arizona University
- Experience with special education, English Learners, gifted programs, AP courses, and at-risk students
- Current Assistant Professor of Teacher Education at Simpson College
What I'm About
When serving on the board:
- I will put students first.
- I will support our teachers and staff by protecting their time, fostering a culture of respect and voice, and ensuring safe work environments equipped with the resources needed to perform their jobs effectively.
- I will support rigorous academics, encouraging environments, and opportunities for all learners to strengthen our schools.
- I will commit to a culture of collaboration and transparency with the community, ensuring we listen to one another and we work together even in moments of disagreement.
Parents Matter
As a parent, this work is personal. My children have attended Indianola schools since kindergarten and are now in middle and high school.
- I share the hopes and concerns of families across our community.
- I understand what teachers need to help students thrive, and I also know what parents want for their children – challenging academics, supportive environments, and a sense of belonging.
Like every parent, I want my children—and all students—to feel known, challenged, supported, and prepared for the future.
Servant Leader
I understand the responsibility that comes with board service. It requires collaboration, problem-solving, and a willingness to listen. If elected, I will bring:
- A thoughtful and informed voice grounded in classroom experience and educational research
- Dedication to open communication with families, staff, and community members
- A long-term commitment to strengthening Indianola schools today and for the future
I am dedicated to keeping all students at the center of decision-making, knowing that the choices we make today shape both their futures and the legacy of our district.
